The central islands have been replaced with a central ore/gem/tech pit, including similar, self-healing fortifications around the pit. Each player can now attack any other player. In Xrossfire II, land replaces water to now provide 8 player locations. A long 'in-the-air' bridge connects both sides. Water divides the land and makes up about 1/3 of the map for serious naval battles. Xrossfire is a 4-player map with 2 sides, each with two players that can either fight it out together or ally to attack the other side and the other two opponents- this is a great team player map. You must see the extra info file for all the details of units and suggestions for team-play locations/alternative objectives.
